As much as I agree with you about "the balls" (and I giggled a little when I wrote that), and as much as I love the whole concept of him outing himself for the reasons he's done it, Spidey-writers will be jonesing for a retcon once everybody forgets "Civil War" in a year or two. Sorry, but I liked Pete as the "everyman" who stumbles through real life when he's not slingin' the webs.
I admit I'm not a big Spidey fan, so it doesn't make much difference to me what they do with the character... but isn't MJ some huge celebrity? If so, it's been a while since Pete's been a funcitonal "everyman."
And, God, I hope they resist the urge to retcon this for at least as long as Quesada's tenure lasts. He strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn't decide to do it if he hadn't made up his mind to run with it for the long haul. (Fingers crossed.)
BTW, is it just me, or is another big one being foreshadowed in Civil War #2? Reed and Sue Richards splitting up -- And the FF with them, of course.

Just another nail in this title's coffin. And after the smear job they did on Gwen Stacy, I frankly have given up on the title and character.
^^^I am *not* a JMS fan. To put it mildly. But not because of what he did on Spideman. :)
