Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

is the title of the final book in the series, according to a new post by the author on her site.

Two predictions:

1, Snape is a double-agent
2, Hermione doesn't survive

I think #1 is a little too obvious to be true, but I think you're right with #2...Cheers!

My take is: if Snape turned out to be the Really Bad Man he's always seemed to be, *that* would be a little too obvious. But if he was secretly working with the ministry (and Dumbeldore) against the Death-Eaters and You-Know-Who ... which would make him a really GOOD guy under that grumpy facade . . wouldn't *that* qualify as a twist? (Not to mention, wouldn't it validate the faith Dumbeldore put in him?)

Rowling has said that 2 beloved characters die in the final book.

You've already surmised Hermione...who is your other pick?

Personally, I was guessing Ron and Cho-Chang. Or Mr. Potter himself.

Totally Hagrid. Gotta be.

I think it would be appropriate dramatically if Harry sacrificed his life to defeat Voldemort. And it works on a practical level, too, since that would make it much more difficult for anyone (including Rowling herself) to resurrect the franchise down the road.

Still, I just can't see the ending being *that* tragic. Hagrid and Hermione will be hard enough for the kids to handle... assuming the 2 *are* Hagrid and Hermione. (But I'd be willing to bet money on them.)

Someone on my message board pointed out that the first book/movie foreshadows a climactic sacrifice by *Ron* to save Harry -- during the Wizard's Chess game. So that's something to think about, as well.

Oh, and Dirk? re: Cho Chang -- She graduated Hogwarts at the end of the last book, so that, taken with the fact that she and Harry were no longer an item (or even friends) indicates she may not even be in the next one.

Food for thought.

Scott - you are so right in the "Snape as a double agent" idea...I must've had a brain fart & not read what was written. I totally agree with you.

P.S. Damn, you are fine (but you already knew that)!
